Barite (Barytes, Barium Sulfate, BaSO4) is a naturally occurring environmentally friendly mineral. Its main properties are its high specific gravity (4.5) and very low solubility. It is non-toxic and it is chemically and physically un-reactive.
Barite is used in many industrial applications and is in high demand. The following are a few of the applications barite is used:
Filler in paints and plastics
Brake pads for the automotive industry
Vehicle floor mats
Oil and gas drilling as a weighting agent in drilling fluid
A technological breakthrough in China has opened the barite market to the energy storage business. Murata Manufacturing Co has begun mass production of the first barium titanate electric capacity. This is similar technology that is currently being developed by Eestor Corporation.
